POSITION OVERVIEW
The Utility Crew Operator plays a key role in supporting our bore crew and field operations. This position is primarily responsible for operating an excavator to assist with horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and boring operations, including digging entry and exit pits, potholing, and backfilling. The Utility Crew Operator will also run other equipment as needed and step in on the labor side to keep jobs moving efficiently and safely.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate an excavator to support bore crew operations, including digging bore pits, locating utilities, potholing, and site cleanup

Assist crew members with hands-on labor tasks including pulling pipe, fusing operations, and making material connections

Primarily installing water services, water mainline, sanitary services, and sanitary mainline

Safely load, move, and place materials, spoils, and material as directed

Operate other heavy equipment as needed (backhoe, bore machine, loader, etc.)

Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on all equipment operated

Follow all safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and company procedures at all times

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Communicate effectively with the bore crew, crew lead, and project supervisor

Adapt to varying job site conditions and tasks as directed by management
QUALIFICATIONS

Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred (Training Available)

Proven experience operating an excavator in a construction or utility environment

Ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment safely and efficiently

Strong understanding of underground utility work and job site safety practices

Physical ability to perform labor-intensive tasks — lifting, digging, and working in varying weather conditions

Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated with a strong work ethic

Ability to work effectively as part of a team
