THE PLAN

To support Tekni-Plex’s expansion into molded fiber manufacturing for the food and beverage industry, our team was brought on as a subcontractor to prepare the site for their new facility. Our scope consists of a 200,000 square foot building pad, storm and sanitary sewer including 13 concrete structures, and a water line tap with additional fire suppression lines. Working under a tight spring construction window, our team completed sitework on schedule to allow concrete construction to begin on time and keep the overall project on track.

THE WORK

Clay was moved in from a new storm water retention pond with tractor and 34 CY Ashland pans running Trimble GPS. Simultaneously, iDozers were used to grade the pad in 8” lifts while meeting or surpassing required compaction with a roller.

Then, a foot of stone was place in two 6” lifts with iDozers grading the pad to final elevations while maintaining compaction requirements with a smooth drum roller.

Coordinating project phasing with Janotta & Herner, utility crews installed the storm sewer, sanitary sewer, waterlines, downspout piping, and fire suppression lines.

THE RESULTS

Final stone quantities were within 1–2% of estimates, and the project was completed on time and on budget. The GPS-equipped dozer improved grading speed and simplified comparisons between GPS layout and conventional staking.

We partnered with VTF Excavating on a large manufacturing facility where they performed the complete sitework and utilities package. From the outset, their team was responsive, transparent, and straightforward—an approach that continued consistently throughout the project.

As the general contractor, we were extremely pleased with their quality of workmanship, efficiency, coordination, and communication. VTF delivered on their commitments and maintained a high level of professionalism from start to finish.

We were very satisfied with their performance and look forward to the opportunity to work with VTF Excavating again in the future."
