Diesel Mechanic

VTF Excavation is looking for a Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Celina, Ohio. This position involves repairing and maintaining diesel-powered heavy construction equipment along with some gasoline-powered equipment.

The ideal candidate understands equipment operations, can diagnose mechanical issues, and is comfortable working both in the shop and in the field when needed. While work is typically performed under the supervision of a foreman, mechanics must use independent judgment and resourcefulness when troubleshooting and completing repairs.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

High school diploma or equivalent

5+ years of experience repairing heavy construction equipment or equivalent training/experience

Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and heavy equipment systems

Welding and fabrication experience preferred

Ability to provide and maintain your own tool set in a locked rolling toolbox

Strong understanding of equipment safety and maintenance procedures

Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills

Ability to manage time effectively and work in a fast-paced environment

Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons when necessary
JOB DESCRIPTION
​As a Diesel Mechanic at VTF Excavation, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a variety of heavy equipment used in excavation and construction operations.

Inspecting, repairing, and adjusting heavy equipment including graders, scrapers, trenchers, bulldozers, backhoes, diesel tractors, semi tractors and trailers, and agricultural equipment

Rebuilding and replacing tractor undercarriages including tracks, rollers, and frames

Performing incidental welding and repair work on equipment

Maintaining a clean and organized work area

Traveling in a service truck to perform field repairs when necessary

Picking up parts and supplies as needed

Ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently after repairs

Following workplace safety standards and reporting unsafe conditions
